Anniversary concert at Concertgebouw Amsterdam: 10 years Scholtes & Janssens Piano Duo

In the past 10 years Lestari Scholtes & Gwylim Janssens travelled around the world. After hundreds of concerts on five continents, more than a dozen prizes, over a thousand rehearsals and innumerable unforgettable moments they will celebrate their anniversary in one of the most memorable halls they have played in: the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. 

During this concert Scholtes & Janssens will play highlights from their repertoire: a selection of the 'Six pieces opus 11' by Rachmaninoff, which the duo played during their Carnegie Hall debut in 2009, the the sizzling Rapsodie Espagnole by Maurice Ravel, Franz Schubert's beloved Fantasy in f and after the break is one of the most challenging works for piano four hands, Igor Stravinsky's Petrushka.

First Pianoduo Festival Amsterdam in september!

In celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the Scholtes & Janssens Piano Duo, Lestari and Gwylim are organizing their own festival: the Pianoduo Festival Amsterdam. 

The festival will be held from 5-8 september 2013 in the Bethaniënklooster in Amsterdam. The festival consists of 12 concerts, lectures and workshops, presenting classical, jazz and lounge music. All events will be focussed on piano duo playing. Musicians as Igor Roma, Paolo Giacometti, Bart van Oort, Rembrandt Frerichs, Willem Brons and Scholtes & Janssens themselves will perform at the festival.

Lestari & Gwylim again in jury Ibla Grand Prize competition

For the fourth time Scholtes & Janssens are invited to be in the jury at the Ibla Grand Prize competition.

The competition will be held from July 9 until July 19 in Ragusa-Ibla (Sicily) in Italy. Lestari and Gwylim were winners of the competition in 2008. Read more about the competition on the website of Ibla Grand Prize. 

Succesfull crowdfunding project for Lestari & Gwylim

Lestari & Gwylim raised 20.000 euros with their crowdfunding project on the Dutch crowdfunding website Voordekunst.nl. This is twice as much as their intended goal of 9.800 euros; the duo reached 204%.


Scholtes & Janssens decided to set up this project with the aim of recording their new cd 'Paris!'. On this cd will be recorded works composed at the eind of the 19th century and beginning of 20th century in the city of arts of that period, Paris. The duo got inspired to record this cd when they performed in Paris last year. The cd will include works of Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky. 

African debut for Scholtes-Janssens Piano Duo

The Scholtes and Janssens Piano Duo has been invited for several performances during the Harare International Festival for the Arts

The festival will be held from April 30 until May 5th in the capital city of Zimbabwe, Harare. Besides several duo concerts Lestari and Gwylim will also be giving master classes to top talent from Zimbabwe and they will be performing with the South-African double bass player Leon Bosch, principal bass player of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. 

The tour is sponsored by the Dutch Embassy in Zimbabwe and the Nederlands Fonds voor Podiumkunsten.

Debussy article published in Piano Bulletin EPTA

The Scholtes-Janssens Piano Duo was asked by the EPTA Netherlands (European Piano Teachers Association) to write an article about the piano duo repertoire of Claude Debussy. 'Debussy for twenty fingers' was published in the December edition of the magazine Piano Bulletin.

The theme of Piano Bulletin was fully focussed on Debussy in honour of his 150th birth year. Lestari and Gwylim wrote about their own experiences and the history behind the piano duo works of this French composer.

Debut in Dubai for Scholtes & Janssens

Lestari & Gwylim will be making their debut in the United Arab Emirates on February 13th.

The duo has been invited by the Dubai Concert Committee to perform at the Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre te Dubai. Lestari & Gwylim will be playing among others Schubert's famous Fantasy, Ravel's Rapsodie espagnole and Stravinsky's Petrouchka.

5-star review for two piano recital Paleis het Loo

Last week's four hands recital in royal Palace 't Loo in Apeldoorn received a five star review in the daily newspaper 'De Stentor'. 

Reviewer René de Cocq wrote about the duo: '...intriguing and lively music, as if it was written for Scholtes and Janssens: two musical souls, one musical conception'. The duo played works by Mozart, Grieg, Stravinsky and Ravel in the sold out recital of the Palace concert series.

Scholtes-Janssens nominated for Grachtenfestival Prize Amsterdam

The Scholtes-Janssens Piano Duo is nominated for the Grachtenfestival Prize 2012. The Grachtenfestival Prize is handed out every year to a young promising musician or ensemble. 

The five nominees are chosen by renowned Dutch classical music journalists. The winner will be announced during the Grachtenfestival during an evening program where all nominees will present themselves in a short performance.
A jury, consisting of three Dutch classical music journalists, will choose the winner. The program starts at 8:00 PM at the Compagnie Theater Amsterdam. This year the Grachtenfestival Prize will be handed out for the sixth time.
De Prize consists of a performance at the theater of the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, Russia and a performance at the Grachtenfestival 2013 

Lestari and Gwylim will also perform in two other concerts at the Grachtenfestival. Om August 11 they will perform with their ensemble Podiumbeesten! and on August 12 they will perform a 'double duo' concert with the Silver-Garburg Piano Duo. Both concerts start at 11:00 AM and will be held in the Compagnie Theater Amsterdam.


Piano Duo Scholtes and Janssens at Festival Classique

Piano Duo Scholtes and Janssens will perform at the Festival Classique in June 15 in The Hague. Lestari and Gwylim will be performing on the Hofvijver stage, a podium, especially build for the festival on the 'Hofvijver' lake in the center of The Hague. 

They will be cooperating with the dance company 'The Dutch Don't Dance Division'. The dancers will be performing in a choreography of Thom Stuart on Gustav Holst's 'The Planets'. Scholtes and Janssens will play the orginal version of the composer for two pianos. The duo shall open the concert with Igor Stravinsky's 'Petrouchka' in the version for piano four hands.
